A band which I guess most of the Christian metalheads is familiar with.
After 2 years of silence (musically), this new album is longed by metalheads
worldwide.
As you all know by now, God has healed Steve Rowe(Vocalist / Bassist)
of Leukemia.
Priase God for that!! =)
This album has been said to be a mixed of Scrolls and Envision, as I
listen to it, not much of Scrolls.
Mortification definately has heavier moments in their history.
If you are looking for a 2nd Scrolls of the Megilloth, you will be
sadly disappointed. If you are looking for a 2nd Envision Evangeline,
this album is quite like it but this album is, occasionally, heavier
than Envision Evangeline.
"At War with War" starts the album, the riffs at the start of this song made me hope that this might be a 2nd Scrolls. But sadly it slows down and can be nest quite comfortably inbetween tracks in Envision Evangeline. Mid-paced guitars with growl and mid-paced drums, but the melody(tune) of this track is better than the 3rd track. At the end, Steve's voice occasionally gets high and the growl become some sorta shriek like Black Metal.
"Triumph of Mercy"- I think Steve had wanted to let everyone know what
EXACTLY happened..
The lyrics are straightforward, non descriptive. But this track sounds
off with weak sounding guitars and drumming. When it gets to about 1:40, the guitars speeds up and the drumming
becomes more intense. The best part of this song must be at 3:08 when the 2nd part of the
songs kicks in, the guitars sounds like Mortification have twin guitarists rather than
just 1 guitarist..The guitars are really good on this track...makes Mortification sounds
so good on the fast parts...
"Welcome to the Polodrome" A weak song in term of melody, don't know
why HM is having this track
in their "Pick of the Litter" CD. Drums goes fast but gets to nowhere,
weak melody, weak vocals.
This track shouldn't be here.
But thank God for "From Your Side",
this track is the best track on this album in my opinion. Groove/Death
Metal at it's best,
great tune, great vocals, great guitars, and the groove...
wow makes you wanna move with the heavy as ton guitar. Great guitar
solo(wonder who wrote it) in the middle. The bass guitar can be heard clearly on this track..rare for a metal
album to have the bass tuned so high up..Well, I guess it's becuase Steve is a great bassist, so hey show off
your skills!!!!! If only ever song on this album was like this, it would win Mortification
MANY new fans.
"Influence" Great groove to this song. The same mid-paced drumming/guitars
and
it's getting fustratin wanting to hear something fast on a Mortification
album nowadays. It's always the same
mid-paced songs. Makes me wanna go crazy. At least "Raw is The Stonewood
Temple" is after "Influence"
thus making 'Influence" more bearable. You can hear double bass on
"Raw is The Stonewood Temple" occasionally,
"Visited By An Angel" speaks about an encounter that Steve had with
a angel sent to minister to him.
Thank God for these angels. This song is again(sigh) mid-paced until
the bridge comes in..
then it really smokes!!!! But thankfully the melody of this song is
really good..
The solo at the bridge and the intense riffing is the definate highlight
of this album!!!!
Great way to end this whole album
