Eternal Decision is a new school thrash/power outfit from, if i'm not
mistaken, Okalahoma City.
This is what Metallica would sound like if they were a Christian band.
They have clean singing(great vocals by the way), superb solos, crunchy
riffs, exellent melody. But please so not be mistaken that Eternal Decision
is a rip-off of old Metallica. Indeed I can hear the influences of Metallica
on SOME of the tracks but that can't mean they are ripping Metallica off
because I can also hear Metallica influences in Iced Earth's(a secular
power metal band) albums. My favourate must be 'Overflow', it starts off
ala some 60's horror show sound for about 10 seconds before the music kicks
in. The guitars and drum immediately make you headbang or at least tap
your fingers with the rhythm of this songs. One of the bands that my church
friends can stand =)
'Risen' has this heartbeat sound that becomes a kewl riff and mid-paced
drumming..at least until the singing comes in, then the pace is picked
up and the guitars quicken. What I think about this band is that they really
like to add special sounds at the beginning of their songs. 'Things I Say'
is one of the examples. On this track I can understand why it's better
to have 2 guitarists. One do this rhythm the other does another rhythm
ala Unforgiven. One of the better songs on this album but a great listen
nevertheless. But the vocals occasionally sound too much like James Hetfield,
but I guess it's because of the vocalist, there ARE people who have the
same singing style and range..1 good example is the typical growl in Death
Metal. Most sound the same with little variations.
This is a great buy in my opinion. One of the better albums. Especially
for those who like Metallica.
SCORE : 7/10
p/s-this is one of the better albums in Christiandom
too.
It gets a 7 because it sounds too much like old
Metallica occasionally.
